Young Professional Award

Awarded to a member or affiliate, under the age of 35 years, who, over their young professional career, has contributed to the advancement of the transportation profession and the North Carolina Section of the Institute of Transportation Engineers. Recipients should exhibit such personal traits as integrity, honesty, professionalism, and leadership. Individual professional accomplishments such as transportation innovations, technical research, paper writing, and NCSITE organizational work, including meeting participation and committee work, can be considered.

*2008 Award Winner: Dr. Bastian J. Schroeder

Bastian J. Schroeder, Ph.D. was presented the NCSITE Young Professional Award. Bastian has a Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree and Ph.D. from North Carolina State University. He was valedictorian of his Civil Engineering graduation class in May 2004. He was very active with the NC State Student Chapter ITE, and served as President 2004 – 2007. As a student, he was recognized numerous times with scholarship awards through NCSITE, NCSU, FHWA, and other organizations such as CTE, ENO, and Third Urban Symposium.

He is an active member of several TRB Task Forces and Committees. He has published/ presented many technical papers and research projects in national forums in the areas of traffic operations and pedestrian safety. He is an active member of the Traffic Engineering Council, and currently chairs the NCSITE Sim-Cap User Group (Simulation and Capacity Model User Group). He is a Research Associate in the Highway Systems Group with ITRE (Institute for Transportation Research and Education).
