This position assists with guiding and coordinating the technical aspects of transportation planning policies, projects and programs for the Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization (CRTPO).

This is a professional and supervisory level position that provides support for the Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization (CRTPO) which is the federally-designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Charlotte urbanized area.

Major Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for managing complex planning processes/projects and coordination and integration of a variety of planning programs, policies, services and regulations
  • Lead and manage corridor and planning studies
  • Facilitate the annual CRTPO traffic data program
  • Direct the efforts to maintain and amend the Comprehensive Transportation Plan (CTP)
  • Provide assistance with the preparation of roadway alignments
  • Review developer concepts and proposed impacts
  • Participate on consultant roadway corridor study committees
  • Prepare cost estimates
  • Present to the CRTPO policy board and Technical Coordinating Committee
  • Participate in the development of lists of potential transportation improvement projects to be included in long and short-range plans
  • Provide technical assistance to CRTPO member jurisdictions
  • Participate in the rezoning process
  • Engage in a high level of interaction with the NC Department of Transportation on feasibility studies, environmental document preparation, Merger process projects and other efforts
  • Participate in CRTPO public involvement efforts, including conducting presentations to neighborhood, civic, business and community groups, as well local governing bodies

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with emphasis in transportation with five (5) years of relevant work experience or a Master’s degree with three (3) years of relevant work experience

Preferred Requirements:

  • Registration as a licensed professional engineer in North Carolina
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D (demonstration of familiarity with this software will be requested as a part of the interview process)
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to work in a team environment, including interdepartmental and multi-jurisdictional committees and organizations
  • Ability to plan, prioritize and organize work and complete assignments with minimal supervision
  • Excellent organizational skills and conflict management skills
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office

Salary Range:

$81,540 to $90,601
